Thomas M. Gernetzke, RBEC, F-IIBEC, is Principal Consultant for Building Envelope Professionals Group, LLC, Oregon, Wisconsin. BEPG provides professional building envelope services, including design and construction administration. BEPG also specializes in analyzing and designing roofing, waterproofing, fenestration, and masonry/cladding systems.
Tom specializes in roofing and waterproofing systems. He has successfully performed roofing and waterproofing assessment, analysis, design, and construction administration to rehabilitate roofing systems, split-slab and plaza deck assemblies, green roofing systems, below-grade structures, cladding and wall systems, and parking structures.
As a construction consultant, he frequently leads and participates in multi-disciplinary design and construction teams to complete large and complex building-envelope-related rehabilitation projects. Tom also performs hygrothermal analysis, peer review, quality assurance, and related services for new construction projects.
Industry Involvement & Volunteerism
Tom believes in giving back to the industry through ongoing involvement with RCI, Inc: The Institute of Roofing, Waterproofing, and Exterior Wall Professionals (now known as IIBEC). Before being elected to and serving on the RCI Executive Committee, Tom served as RCI Region III director and was influential in developing four new RCI chapters. While serving on the executive committee, Tom held the positions of

- Second Vice-President and Annual Convention Committee Chairman,
- First Vice-President,
- President, and
- Immediate Past-President.
Tom was influential in creating the RCI Emerging Professionals Committee and created Operation Moonshot: RCI’s initiative to involve an RCI professional member with every public-school re-roofing project in North America. He is currently serving as the chairman of the RCI Advocacy Committee and as the RCI liaison to the National Roofing Contractors Association. In addition, Tom is a member of the RCI Jury of Fellows.
Tom has been a roofing and building envelope consultant since 2003. Before his consulting career, Tom managed the low-slope roofing division for a Madison-area roofing, siding, and remodeling contractor.
